Competitions - Prose

Scribes Writers 'Short Takes'  Prose competition has now been judged and prizes awarded in both categories, Fictional Short Story and Memoir.

All prize winners including those Highly Commended and Commended have been advised but we would like, once again, to thank all entrants for their contribution and, further, would like to encourage them to keep contributing their work as they continue to grow in their skill.

We had a great response this year with entries spread over seven states.
If you were one of the entrants this year may we extend our thanks for your support but if you were not why not try your hand next year. Keep a check on this site for details.

The Judges' Report and Results in both categories can be accessed from the Prose Competition Tab above (place the cursor on the Tab without clicking and click on the page required from the list that drops down) or directly from here while the Awards List can be directly accessed from here.

The first and second prize winning entries, as we have permission to publish them, can be viewed as follows:

Category A (Short Story) - First Prize by Maree Gallop

Category A (Short Story) - Second Prize by Stephinie Williams

Category B (Memoir) - First Prize by Colleen Russell

Category B (Memoir) - Second Prize by Shirley Richards
(A few tips on writing a Short Story can be accessed here or for a Memoir, here.)

From time to time Scribes Writers run a prose competition and cash prizes are awarded for first and second places with certificates for Highly Commended and Commended submissions. This competition is open to all, not just to our own members. Judging is on a blind basis with a minimum of two judges.

Categories include fictional short story and memoir.

The competition opens for submissions on 1st May so put a note in your diary and check back here then for all the details, conditions and the entry form.
Or you might like to have a dabble in our poetry competition (check out the Poetry Competition tabs above) or just peruse the Tips & Tricks pages under the Prose Competition tab above.
